Plot Introduction:
Father-son differences often lead to conflicts.
Chu Fan and Chu Ci, father and son, could be considered a pair of live adversaries. The father, Fan, is warm-hearted and nostalgic for the strong human relationships of the sixties; the son, Ci, is smooth-talking, pursuing fame and fortune, loving the new trends but indifferent to people. The two are completely at odds with each other, thus frequently causing disputes.
Ci acts as a spokesperson for a tobacco company and is much appreciated by his boss for his eloquence. However, Fan disapproves, believing that one should not promote smoking just for high salary and good position. Ci also disapproves of Fan's insistence on running an old-fashioned wonton noodle stall with mediocre business, allowing the old partner Shiyi Cheng to slack off, and letting his friend Niu Zhengrong eat for free. To avoid arguments, Ci has already moved out, making the father-son relationship very cold.
Later, Fan suffers from Alzheimer's disease, forcing Ci to move back to take care of his father, but their friction continues. Fan learns that Ci has been invited by the city's wealthy man Cheng Kunmian to switch jobs, so he deliberately sabotages it, leaving Ci extremely frustrated.
