"Contemporaries" was jointly filmed by Shandong Film and Television Center and Huīhuáng Century Film and Television Company. Zhang Huili personally wrote and directed the film, and the original creative team of "Adventures in Manchuria" was employed. It can be said that this is a strong alliance aimed at producing a high-quality epic drama for the audience.
The main actors of this play have to go through a 40-year life span, starting from playing naive teenagers and ending up as nearly sexagenarian middle-aged elderly people. "Contemporaries" tells the story of a group of people who were born in 1949 and grew up with the founding of the People's Republic of China. Their growth history is also the development history of the People's Republic of China. Their lives are full of different flavors, yet they are inseparably intertwined together. They jointly support the construction and development of New China, becoming the backbone-like "contemporaries".
