In the late Tang Dynasty, after Emperor Xianzong's death, Empress Guo (played by Snow Heart) was helped by the powerful eunuch Ma Yuanzhi to place her son Li You on the throne as Emperor Muzong. The father of Liu Sanhao (played by Po Man Clear) supported Xianzong's second son, Li Yun, to be emperor and was punished by Emperor Muzong with exile to the frontier. His wife, Jiang Caiqiong (played by Rainbow Nielsen), along with their seven-year-old daughter Sanhao and their maid Yao Jinling (played by Joyce Yang), were enslaved in the palace.
