Synopsis:
"The Gate of Riches" revolves around a prominent family in the banking industry. The story begins with a con artist infiltrating the family and becoming the second son. In the business world, the second son struggles against the eldest son. Outside of business, both face their own romantic dilemmas: the eldest son marries a woman from a prestigious family but has an extramarital affair with his true love, a female lawyer; the second son deeply loves the third sister, who he has no blood relation to, but they cannot be together due to ethical constraints. Can the eldest son and his half-brother, who appears to share the same father, only confront each other? Within this family, the second son discovers the value of family ties but, as a con artist, must choose between profit and family bonds. Will he be moved by family affection or succumb to greed, ultimately embarking on a path of no return? Family ties are blameless, but money tempts sin!
Banker Tony Zhuo (Louis Koo) mistakenly recognizes con artist Sandy Fa Lai (Robert Guo) as his half-brother Zhuo Yi Ming and helps him become a significant figure in the banking world. Blinded by family emotions, Tony fails to see Fa Lai's malicious intentions, leading to nurturing a tiger that will eventually cause harm.
Tony encounters a riot abroad and is kidnapped. This distressing experience drastically changes his personality. Despite repeated attempts by his loving wife, Doris He Jue Nian (Miki Tsui), to guide and console him, she cannot help him overcome the shadow of shame, which instead drives him to seek solace in his old lover, Dong Ling Zi (Fiona Sit). Years of marital affection are shattered.
After entering the Zhuo family, Fa Lai initially tastes the warmth of family love and discovers that his beloved is none other than Zhuo Yi Xin (Maggie Cheung), his nominal half-sister. However, Yi Xin, unable to overcome moral barriers, suppresses her true feelings for Fa Lai and instead chooses Gao Tuo Min (Marco Ngai), who ardently loves her. Unwilling to lose his love or abandon wealth, Fa Lai hesitates between emotion and money. Ultimately, he chooses the path of wealth, stepping into the decadent gate of riches.
A series of intense monetary battles among passionate men, entangled love stories filled with hatred and tenderness, and severe ethical tests await like arrows on the string.
