Xu's mother (played by Pan Hong) agreed to let her son Xu Wenxiu (played by Qiu Xinzhi) marry Tian Jufang (played by Pan Yijun), who had a scar on her face, in order to obtain the dyeing silk technology. Despite his deep love for Jin Rulan (played by He Miao), a famous actress in Jiangnan, Wenxiu had no choice but to become a nominally married couple with Jufang, living together in an estranged relationship. Xu Wenxiu, who pursued perfection in everything, could not help but be preoccupied with the scar on Jufang's face and remained unforgettable for Rulan. However, Jufang's demeanor, intelligence, and competence gradually moved Wenxiu. The dragon robe was finally woven, and the two became a real couple.
