Plot Summary:
Four months ago, a terrible car accident claimed the lives of their parents. But as the new semester begins, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev) and her 15-year-old brother Jeremy (played by Steven R. McQueen) must try to forget their grief and continue living.
Elena has always been the "star student" at the local school—beautiful, popular, and able to fit into campus life and make friends easily. However, this new semester she has to work hard to hide the pain of losing her parents both in front of others and behind closed doors.
The new school term seems no different from before, but the arrival of transfer student Stefan Salvatore (played by Paul Wesley) changes everything. Elena and her friends can't help but be captivated by this exceptionally handsome yet mysterious new student.
As if drawn together by some unseen force, Stefan and Elena are deeply attracted to each other from the moment they meet. But Elena would never have guessed that this charming young man is actually a vampire who has lived for centuries.
