Plot Summary:
After Japan's defeat in World War II, during a difficult escape, a young girl named Duohè from a reclamation team managed to survive through her wit and instinct for life. By a twist of fate, she ended up at the home of a small train station manager in Northeast China. The wife of the second son of the Zhang family, Zhang Jian (played by Jiang Wu), had suffered a miscarriage due to being startled by Japanese soldiers and was thereafter unable to bear children. Duohè's arrival changed the dynamics of the entire family. The title "Aunt" comes from the need for the Zhang family and Duohè herself to conceal her true identity, as it was a special era. The three children born could not call her mother. For decades, this "aunt" remained closely tied to the Zhang family, to Xiao Huan (played by Yan Xuejing), to the children, and to the evolving society—her presence followed by emotional connections, moving moments, and tears alike.
