Synopsis:
"Jewel in the Palace" is a family drama about four siblings named Jade, Gemstone, Coral, and Amber.
Just like bibimbap made with diverse ingredients, it offers viewers a sumptuous feast for the autumn weekend.
MBC production staff explained, "Jewel in the Palace tells the story of four children named Jade, Gemstone, Coral, and Amber. When different gemstones are mixed together, will they really shine? When they collide, they might break. From the parents' perspective, all their children are equally precious, just like the ingredients in bibimbap."
They further explained, "If family members coordinate well, they can become beautiful ornaments. But if there's not enough harmony, they lose their luster. Jewel in the Palace is about the various stories that happen to each member of the family," thus explaining the meaning of the title.
The father, Gong Sang Shik, who has worked as a doorman at a hotel for 30 years, is played by veteran actor Han Jin-hee, while the mother, Pi Hye-in (translated phonetically), who is full of vanity and causes trouble, is portrayed by Han Hye-suk.
The eldest daughter, Jade, who appears outwardly upright but inwardly hopes to meet a wealthy man to live a good life, is played by Ko Na-eun, with Lee Tae-kun co-starring as the male lead.
Like her sister, the second daughter Ruby, who believes that meeting a successful man is the way to escape poverty, is played by So Yi-hyun. The son, Coral, who dreams of becoming a prosecutor, is played by Lee Hyun-jin, while the youngest son, Amber, an expert at exposing fakes, is played by newcomer Lee Il-min.
