Plot Summary:

Patrick Jane (Golden Globe winner Simon Baker, "The Devil Wears Prada") used to publish various articles about mental illnesses and supernatural senses in the media and appeared as a guest on TV talk shows, making him seem like a psychological expert. But this "semi-celebrity" himself admits that his so-called "supernatural abilities" are purely a hoax - only his observation and perception skills are far stronger than others.

Now, having stepped away from the "celebrity circle," Jane has become an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) special case investigation unit. He uses his "extrasensory" strengths to solve multiple high-profile difficult and complicated cases, with his astonishing efficiency and success record earning him the title of "miracle worker." However, within the bureau, everyone knows Jane's background - he is undisciplined and unwilling to follow rules.

Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney, "Prison Break"), who is stern and rigid, finds Jane very frustrating - on one hand, she openly opposes Jane, thinking him hypocritical, narcissistic, superficial, and always showing off, not wanting him to stay in her team. She particularly hates Jane's inability to separate work and personal life, believing he will one day endanger everyone's safety. On the other hand, she cannot deny that Jane's role is irreplaceable, and his judgment is valuable to his colleagues.

Lisbon's capable subordinates include the smart Kimball Cho (Tim Kang, "Rambo") and the clumsy Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman, "The Nine"), along with an inexperienced rookie, Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti, "The O.C."). Grace also feels that Jane's freewheeling behavior is a threat to everyone, but she admires Jane's investigative techniques and his irresistible male charm.

In the first episode, a couple’s (Steven Culp, Gail O'Grady) daughter mysteriously disappears, and all evidence points to the trouble-making boy next door. After merely taking a leisurely stroll through the victim's house, Jane points out that the girl's father is the real culprit. This is not the first time Jane has bypassed standard procedures, leading to surprising results. An angry Lisbon suspends Jane from duty.

Two weeks later, Lisbon takes on a new case - the wife of a golf athlete and her doctor are murdered in Palm Springs. Once again, Jane voluntarily offers to "help" his beautiful boss solve the case. What truly interests Jane are the traces left by the serial killer "Red John" at the scene - a smiley face drawn on the victim's palm. Jane seems to have some connection with this "Red John" - it was because of "Red John" that Jane completely abandoned his past frivolous lifestyle and exited the famous talk show that made him world-famous.

Suspects emerge one after another... Who is the murderer? Is it the golf athlete himself who had an affair? Is it his brother who had an affair with his wife? Or is it the doctor's colleague who embezzled funds? Has "Red John" really returned? These questions will gradually uncover Patrick Jane's facade, revealing to the audience a true picture of him: someone who feels urgency but is exhausted; full of hope but with a broken heart; incredibly intelligent but filled with fear.
