The 2009 TVB October anniversary production "The Glory of Tang Dynasty", starring Charmaine Sheh, Kenneth Chan, and Fiona Yuen.
Synopsis:
Set in the Tang Dynasty imperial court, the drama portrays the open rivalry within the four chambers that prepare the Empress's attire. With the backdrop of the Tang Dynasty harem, it tells the stories and schemes of the women in the harem. Charmaine Sheh plays the role of palace maid Liu San Hao, who with her "three good" philosophy (good heart, good words, good deeds), manages to rise above the complex power struggles in the harem and develops a romantic relationship with Kenneth Chan that resembles the love story between Dae Jang Geum and Min Jeong-ho.
Liu San Hao (Charmaine Sheh) and Yao Jin Ling (Fiona Yuen) are sworn sisters in the palace. As junior palace maids, they are constantly assigned menial tasks. The harem is controlled by four departments: the Department of Food headed by Tan Yan Chang (Nancy Liu), the Department of Embroidery led by Zhong Xue Xia (Mimi Yeung), the Department of Decorations managed by Hu Su En (Qwen Yu), and the Department of Jewelry overseen by Ruan Cui Yun (Grace Garson). These four factions constantly vie for power and position, often involving innocent San Hao and Jin Ling in their conflicts as scapegoats. Despite enduring numerous hardships, San Hao remains steadfast to her "three good" principles, while Jin Ling, after being mistreated, sets out for revenge. During an opportunity to serve Emperor Li Yi (Christopher Gorham), Jin Ling secretly seduces him, becoming Consort Li and begins a rivalry with Consort Wan Bao Xian (Maggie Siu). Meanwhile, San Hao, with her cleverness and kindness, rises to become the Chief Palace Maid. When both San Hao and Jin Ling gain influence, their sisterly bond breaks as they both fall for the palace guard Gao Xian Yang (Kenneth Chan). Jin Ling seeks to punish the four departments, but San Hao repays their grievances with virtue and strives to protect them. Using this, Jin Ling turns against San Hao...
