Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber (2009 Deng Chao Version)
In the late Yuan Dynasty, Wudang disciple Zhang Cuisan becomes involved in a dispute over the Dragon-Slaying Saber with Yin Susu, daughter of the Tianying Sect leader. Together with Xie Xun, the Golden-Haired Lion King, they drift to a deserted island at sea. Zhang Cuisan and Yin Susu eventually marry and have a son, named Wuji. Ten years later, Zhang Cuisan and his wife return to the mainland but are forced to commit suicide due to their involvement with the Dragon-Slaying Saber, leaving behind their orphaned son, Zhang Wuji.
By chance, Zhang Wuji masters supreme martial arts skills and saves the Ming Cult from peril, being elected as its leader. Princess Zhao Min of the Yuan Dynasty, after several encounters with the Ming Cult, falls in love with Zhang Wuji and ultimately renounces her title as princess, breaking ties with her father and brother. Besides Zhao Min, Zhang Wuji also develops romantic relationships with Zhou Zhiruo of the Emei Sect, his cousin Yin Li, and Xiaozhao, the Persian Holy Maiden.
Zhou Zhiruo is the first to discover the secret of the Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber – that hidden within them is a map leading to a martial arts manual. She steals the sword and saber, kills Yin Li, and frames Zhao Min. Unaware of the truth, Zhang Wuji harbors hatred towards Zhao Min. Unable to defend herself, Zhao Min can only helplessly watch as Zhang Wuji marries Zhou Zhiruo.
However, news about Xie Xun interrupts the wedding between Zhang Wuji and Zhou Zhiruo. Zhang Wuji finally realizes that Zhao Min is his true lifelong love. After deeply understanding the essence of martial arts and lifting the siege on Shaolin Temple by the Yuan army, Zhang Wuji resigns as the leader of the Ming Cult and retreats with Zhao Min to live a secluded life in the mountains.
