The 2009 military-themed TV series , all 48 episodes, tells the story of the growth of China's modern navy, from the Jinchma Campaign in the 1950s to this year's Somali escort fleet, spanning a period of 60 years.
Synopsis of :
In September 1949, after the Liaoshen, Huaihai, and Pingjin campaigns were victorious, the remnants of the Nationalist forces retreated to Jinma Island. A part of the Third Field Army advanced southward into Jiangnan. Hongliu Regiment's Third Battalion Commander Wang Benli and Political Commissar Li ShanKui received orders to prepare for an amphibious landing operation but unfortunately suffered a crushing defeat. Li Shangkui was killed in action, and Wang Benli renamed himself "Wang Shangkui" to commemorate him.
The failure of the "Jinmen Sea Battle" prompted the top levels of the new Chinese government to strengthen the Navy. After the victory in the Korean War, Wang Shangkui returned to the Red Sea and joined the Navy, marrying Doctor Xu Jinyun.
Wang Shangkui dedicated himself to studying naval warfare tactics and accidentally won a brilliant sea battle that made him famous. However, double Ph.D. Ma Jiancheng sneered at him. During the construction of the Very Low Frequency (VLF) station, Soviet aid was withdrawn halfway through, and Wang Shangkui strongly recommended Ma Jiancheng as the chief engineer. Unexpectedly, he learned that Ma Jiancheng was his wife's first love.
Repeated failures in VLF station experiments caused Ma Jiancheng to desert. Later, Wang Shangkui and Political Commissar Lu Xinquan persuaded Ma Jiancheng to return against all objections. Ma Jiancheng risked his life in one final attempt, and the VLF station was successfully developed.
Lu Xinquan accidentally learned that Li Shangkui had survived back then. Li requested Lu to keep the secret and hoped his son Li Qiang would serve in the Navy in the future.
More than ten years later, Wang Shangkui's son Wang Haijun wanted to go to university, but Wang Shangkui insisted that his son join the army. After failed negotiations, Wang Shangkui angrily sent his son to serve as a cook on a supply ship. Ma Jiancheng finally agreed to take over as director of the No. 509 Institute, but under the condition that Wang Haijun be sent to take the college entrance exam, which Wang Shangkui refused.
Ma Jiancheng's report on "information platform construction" conflicted with the issue of "resolving employee housing problems." The proud Ma Jiancheng stormed off to the supply ship, where he coincidentally met Wang Haijun and encouraged him to have lofty ideals.
Wang Haijun wanted to leave the military, leading to a fierce conflict between father and son. Wang Shangkui felt lonely and couldn't help shedding tears thinking of Li Shangkui. Seeing his father cry for the first time, Wang Haijun decided to stay. However, during a military exercise, he played a dirty trick and was punished with 40 days of confinement.
Unexpectedly, the confinement changed Wang Haijun's life, as his academic performance soared. The usually proud Ma Jiancheng finally put aside his pride and sought out Political Commissar Lu to secure 30 million yuan in funding.
Li Qiang was admitted to the Naval Academy but was replaced by Lu Xiangdong, the son of Political Commissar Lu. Lu personally apologized, and Li Shangkui passed away with a smile. Wang Haijun, Li Qiang, and Lu Xiangdong became famous as the three musketeers of the Naval Academy.
Despite his father's opposition, Lu Xiangdong went into business. After graduation, Wang Haijun and Li Qiang were assigned to the No. 159 ship. Later, Wang Haijun furthered his studies at the Guangzhou Naval Academy and, upon graduation, went to the toughest South China Sea minesweeper to serve as deputy commander, marrying Ma Yumei, Ma Jiancheng's daughter.
By this time, Ma Jiancheng was in the late stages of lung cancer. The simulation of the information platform entered a critical stage, and his strong sense of mission extended the miracle of his life.
In 1990, Wang Haijun and Li Qiang served as captain and political commissar respectively, testing the domestically produced No. 159 ship after modifications and practically verifying its various performances. The trial voyage was highly successful, and Ma Jiancheng passed away peacefully at his post upon hearing the good news.
Lu Xiangdong invested in the Red Sea and helped Li Meihua, attracting police attention. After understanding the entire situation, Lu Xinquan finally eliminated the estrangement between father and son.
In 1995, after a lifetime of military service, Wang Shangkui retired.
In the new era, maritime defense became even more crucial. Wang Haijun and Li Qiang participated in the largest-scale deterrent military exercise in naval history, "Changjian No. 1." A fire broke out in the boiler room, and Li Qiang was severely injured while saving his comrades-in-arms. It was then that Wang Shangkui learned about Li Qiang's background.
As an expert in China's maritime rights, Ma Yumei was invited to give a speech at the Boao Forum for Asia, receiving enthusiastic praise. Wang Haijun excelled both theoretically and practically, earning commendations from the Central Military Commission and the Navy Headquarters. In 2007, he was ordered to lead a fleet in a multinational joint military exercise, showcasing our navy's strength and national image perfectly with his outstanding performance, winning respect from all participating countries.
