"Sentimental" is set in the period before liberation. The plot spans 20 years and tells about the emotional entanglements of two generations. The relationships among characters are very complicated and the emotional clues are deeply moving. In this drama, Zeng Li, Guo Xiaodong, Zhang Meng and Ji Ning, Tong Yao belong to two different generations. Zhang Meng, who plays Ji Ning's biological mother, married Guo Xiaodong while she was pregnant. 20 years later, "Ning Tianyu" (played by Ji Ning) fell in love with Guo Xiaodong's daughter (Tong Yao) who was born by his former lover (Zeng Li).
