Introduction to the Full Plot of "Warrior":
At the end of 1949, before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xiangxi, known as "China's appendix," was still plagued by rampant bandits in the vast mountain ranges, with so-called "ten thousand mountains and ten thousand troops."
Xiangxi has a complex terrain with ravines crisscrossing, dense streams and rivers, undulating peaks, and continuous caves. More than ten counties border Hubei, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Guangxi provinces, and have always been areas with weak governance throughout history. Since the Song Dynasty, banditry has never ceased, especially during the late Qing Dynasty when it became rampant, and even more severe during the Republican era. Many bandit leaders took advantage of the rugged geography of Xiangxi to carve out their own territories, ruling with an iron fist. They would set fires on windy nights, commit murders under the cover of darkness, raid homes, steal, rape, and plunder, bringing endless disasters to the people of Xiangxi. For centuries, the beautiful scenery of Xiangxi has been overshadowed by its reputation as "China's appendix." The local bandits believed that no one could completely eradicate the bandit problem in Xiangxi, and that the bandits would persist like the unceasing flow of Xiangxi's ancient rivers.
In the autumn of 1949, a certain unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army moved south to attack the remaining Nationalist forces in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan. While passing through Xiangxi, the army's cultural troupe leader Liang Zi Yun led the troupe members in presenting a stirring motivational performance for the troops about to embark on their mission. However, shortly afterward, five cultural troupe members, including Liang Zi Yun, were mysteriously kidnapped by the bandits. Enraged, the army commander ordered reconnaissance company captain Zheng Huchen to launch a direct assault on the bandit stronghold to rescue the captured troupe members.
