Synopsis of Episode 18 of the TV series "Life and Death Line":
In 2009, the large-scale anti-Japanese patriotic TV series "Life and Death Line" was released in full. The series is based on real historical events of the Anti-Japanese War and tells the soul-wrenching experiences of those unsung heroes during the eight years of resistance. It reinterprets a group of ordinary civilians who, despite being unknown, were willing to sacrifice their lives for the cause, creating a tragic epic of the war that swept across China.
Synopsis of "Life and Death Line":
In the late stages of the 1938 Battle of Xuzhou, the Japanese army launched a surprise attack on Guning Port, which was uncovered by veteran underground party member Ouyang Shanchuan. Unfortunately, due to limited strength, he was unable to stop it, leading to the occupation of Guning City. Under the leadership of the unique urban proletarian Si Daofeng, Ouyang Shanchuan formed the anti-Japanese organization "Si Daofeng." This highly individualistic and romantic anti-Japanese organization included various forces from all levels of society.
In 1941, with the outbreak of the Pacific War, Guning experienced the toughest two years for enemy-occupied armed forces during the war. "Si Daofeng" received orders to do whatever it takes to escort nuclear physicist He Moxiu onto the U.S. military rescue ship. During the prolonged breakout battle, the guerrillas removed the major traitor Li Liuye from Guning City. The mild-mannered but internally fiery He Moxiu was ultimately inspired to stay and officially became a member of "Si Daofeng."
By 1945, nearing the end of the war, the already defeated Japanese forces began constructing an airport in Guning, imprisoning half of Guning's population as laborers in the construction site. Despite always being seen as a coward, He Moxiu stood up when Ouyang was critically ill, commanding the resistance movement both inside and outside the construction site. Under the guidance of the guerrillas, the Nationalist Army captured this threateningly significant airport. For the first time, Chinese people gathered outside Guning City without any distinction of political parties or classes. With the comprehensive victory of the war, Ouyang left his most brilliant years and his most precious things in Guning. Although the anti-Japanese organization "Si Daofeng" only ever had a few dozen members at any one time, throughout the entire war, more than six hundred people sacrificed themselves as members of "Si Daofeng"...
