"Headball to the Ground" tells the story of a player, Cha Bong Gun, who lives in poverty but has a fiery heart. The drama depicts his miraculous success in a third-rate life and conveys humanitarianism.
In the drama, Cha Bong Gun is an unfortunate player who has faced three dangerous moments without achieving victory. He harbors the grand ideal of becoming a national team player and lives with passion. Despite lacking technical skills, Cha Bong Gun (played by Jung Yun Ho) has a fervent love for football. His romantic counterpart is Kang Haebin (played by Ko Ara), a girl born with everything but still dreams of creating her future with her own hands.
Jung Yun Ho portrays Cha Bong Gun, a soccer player with an unfortunate life, who wins championships three times with unwavering determination and accomplishes the impossible task of entering the national team. Ko Ara plays Kang Haebin, the daughter of a team owner, who wishes to conceal her identity and become a respected football agent in the male-dominated world. She is captivated by an unknown player's stunning shot during an industrial match, and amidst constant arguments, their love blossoms.
Lee Yoon Ji plays Woo Yeon, a neighbor and classmate of Cha Bong Gun (Yun Ho), who only knows how to play soccer and often causes trouble. They have been classmates since middle school, and later, Woo Yeon becomes a nutritionist in the professional team where Cha Bong Gun plays, nurturing deep feelings for him. Amidst their constant bickering, subtle emotions emerge between Woo Yeon and Cha Bong Gun, resulting in a triangular relationship involving sports coach Kang Haebin (Gao Yara) and Cha Bong Gun. Lee Yoon Ji's character, Woo Yeon, shares a friendship with Cha Bong Gun.
