This TV series is adapted from the classic novel "Romance of the Doomed City" by legendary Chinese female writer Eileen Chang.
In the 1930s in Shanghai, the Bai family, which had once been extremely prosperous as former Qing dynasty scholars, was declining year by year, living off their savings until they were barely able to make ends meet.
