Introduction to the plot:

"Cangtian" is adapted from the real-life prototype of Ma Xiwu. Ma Xiwu once served as the Commissioner of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region Government, the President of the Longdong Branch Court of the Higher People's Court of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region, and the President of the Higher People's Court. In the early days of the founding of New China, he served as the Vice President of the Supreme People's Court. During his work in Longdong, he changed the old bureaucratic trial style of the government office, followed the mass line, focused on mediation, and adopted a trial method that was convenient for the masses to litigate, which was called the "Ma Xiwu Trial Method". He was loved and supported by the masses and was known as "Ma Qingtian". Chairman Mao personally inscribed for him in Yan'an, "Never be separated from the masses for a moment." Ma Xiwu's trial method was called the "Eastern Trial Experience" by Westerners and had a profound impact on the creation of the judicial system of New China. "Cangtian" was created based on the life events of Ma Xiwu, reflecting the older generation of revolutionaries' commitment to the mass line during wartime, filled with sincere feelings for the masses, people-oriented, law enforcement for the people, in-depth investigation, simplification of litigation, itinerant case handling, gaining public support, and following public opinion, demonstrating excellent conduct and virtues in substantially resolving issues at the grassroots level. The cases involved in the drama are all created based on real historical cases. Especially the marriage dispute case of Liu Qiaoe has been adapted into various forms for the stage and screen. The Peking Opera "Liu Qiaoe" starring Xin Fengxia is well-known to every household. This case, known as one of the "Eight Great Cases of Modern Times," after being reviewed by Ma Xiwu, opposed the old marriage system, advocated free love and marital autonomy, and sparked a marriage revolution in the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region.
