Introduction to the plot of "Wang Laohu Seizes a Bride":
A mistaken rumor about the king seeking a marriage causes Xiuying to be hastily arranged by her older brother to marry a scholar she has never met. However, upon realizing the mistake during the wedding ceremony, Laohu, who has always despised literati, immediately stops the marriage! The poor scholar Zhou Wenbin proposes to Wang Xiuying, a rich family's daughter, but is rejected by Mrs. Wang, Xiuying's mother. Xiuying's brother, Wang Tianbao, nicknamed "Wang Laohu," uses his power and influence to abduct beautiful women everywhere. On the Lantern Festival night, Zhou Wenbin gambles with his friend Zhu Zhishan, saying he can dress up as a woman to watch the lanterns without being recognized. As a result, the woman dressed Zhou Wenbin is abducted by Wang Laohu. That night, unwilling to "get married," Zhou Wenbin was placed in the younger sister’s room by Laohu, unintentionally consummating his marriage with Wang Xiuying; the next day, Zhu Zhishan came looking for him, leaving Mrs. Wang no choice but to allow her daughter to marry Zhou Wenbin.
The reckless and unwise Wang Laohu (Charlie Chan) cannot bear the constant pressure from his mother Liu Bingdi (Sally Wong) to get married, mistakenly abducting Zhou Wenbin (Marco Chan), dressed as a woman, back to the mansion as a wife. He rashly places him temporarily in his younger sister Wang Xiuying's (Tina Ho) bedroom for one night. To preserve his sister's honor, Laohu agrees to let Wenbin become engaged to Xiuying but sets harsh rules to humiliate Wenbin. The intelligent Wenbin devises a plan to use the female knight Wu Sanshan (Carina Lau) to counterbalance Laohu, misleading Sanshan into believing that Laohu is her long-sought-after savior. Wenbin then sets a trap for Laohu to abduct Sanshan again, bringing her back to the mansion. After their marriage, Sanshan, determined to reform this wicked tiger, stages daily taming acts in the Wang mansion, nearly driving the explosive-tempered Laohu crazy. Having successfully escaped Laohu's clutches, Wenbin should have lived freely, but his arrogance leads to further conflicts. All characters and plots deviate from the traditional play's fixed patterns, creating a fresh new chapter for "Wang Laohu Seizes a Bride."
