Wei Tiechu and Yuan Yousheng were once partners in a border defense company. In a battle to eliminate rebels who crossed the border, Yuan Yousheng was wounded while covering for Wei Tiechu and lost his ability to have children. Wei Tiechu gave his newly born daughter to Yuan Yousheng, who had returned home after being discharged from service, and promised never to meet his daughter again.
