In the third year of Tongzhi (1864 AD), the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom caused turmoil. General Lin Wenhao of Fujian Province had been fighting on the battlefield for years. During a brief return home to visit his wife and children, he unexpectedly discovered that his wife Baoxia, unable to bear the prolonged loneliness of her husband's absence, had decided to elope with Wenhuo's long-time friend Zhu Shigui. After much internal struggle, Lin Wenhao decided to let Baoxia go. Afterwards, he was left alone to raise his daughter Lin Yuhuan while continuing to fight against the Taiping army and serve his country.
