This series is adapted from the well-known traditional Korean folk story "Chunhyangjeon" and presents a new interpretation of it.
The son of the police chief, Lee Mong-ryong, transfers from Seoul to a high school in Namyuan, Jeolla Province. On his first day, due to a misunderstanding, he becomes a pair of "lovers who bicker" with Sung Chun-hyang, the top student in the school. Once, Mong-ryong mistakenly drinks rice wine as a beverage and, by chance, ends up sleeping in the same bed as Chun-hyang who was sick at the time. Unfortunately, this scene is witnessed by Chun-hyang's mother coming home from work and Mong-ryong's parents looking for their son. Unexpectedly, this incident is leaked by Chun-hyang's good friends Dan-ji and Chi-seok, becoming a "secret" known by the entire school. In order not to be expelled from school, the two are forced to make a marriage pact. As a result, Chun-hyang moves into Mong-ryong's house to help him with his studies, gradually developing feelings for this physically strong but simple-minded yet kind young man. With Chun-hyang's help, Lee Mong-ryong successfully passes the entrance exam for Seoul National University, one of the nation's key universities. However, Chun-hyang misses her chance to attend due to being unable to afford the tuition fees. In Seoul, Mong-ryong meets his first love, Chae-rin, causing ripples in his heart once again, while failing to see Chun-hyang's deep affection for him. Kind-hearted Chun-hyang can only silently "indulge" her husband's affair with other women, swallowing her tears. Meanwhile, Chun-hyang meets Byeon Hak-do, the president of a famous artist management company. From the moment he saw Chun-hyang, he fell in love with this unique high school girl. But because Chun-hyang already has someone else in her heart, no matter how hard Byeon Hak-do tries, she feels only gratitude, not love. This greatly hurts Byeon Hak-do's pride, and he resolves to do whatever it takes to win Chun-hyang back, even resorting to any means necessary. Seeing Chun-hyang's frequent interactions with Byeon Hak-do, Mong-ryong feels uneasy. It is at this point that he realizes that the person he truly loves is none other than Chun-hyang, who spends every day with him...
