["Sweet Sweet" Introduction]

This drama depicts a pure and sincere romantic love story from the 1970s and 80s. Once the protagonists fall in love, they remain devoted to each other for life. The songs of Teresa Teng run throughout the series, with "Sweet Sweet" accompanying the protagonists' love journey, interpreting the beautiful emotions of that innocent era.

The story begins at a farm in Northern China at the end of the 1970s. Lei Lei (played by Deng Chao), a mischievous cadre's son, meets Ye Qing'er (played by Sun Li), a beautiful female intellectual youth who has been falsely accused of being promiscuous. They start off as rivals but soon form an innocent friendship, which develops into a subtle affection. Their budding romance is fueled by their shared love for Teresa Teng's "Sweet Sweet."

Qing'er returns to the city to attend medical school, while Lei Lei fails the college entrance exam and becomes an unemployed youth, creating a noticeable gap in their social statuses and subtly changing their relationship. Although Lei Lei comes from a high-ranking cadre family, he was sent down to the countryside as a child and grew up without supervision, making him rebellious and wild. When he realizes his feelings for Qing'er, he starts a bold and persistent pursuit. Due to her father once being labeled a rightist and her own past experiences, Qing'er is much more conservative. She is a girl whose emotions are suppressed, carrying psychological scars. While she harbors good feelings towards Lei Lei, the heavy burden of thought and the conservative family and social environment prevent her from accepting Lei Lei's straightforward advances, leading her to resist his romantic pursuits.

Even though Qing'er refuses Lei Lei's love, she remains concerned about him. Their delicate relationship is eventually discovered by Qing'er's parents, causing a family upheaval. Qing'er's parents see Lei Lei as a spoiled troublemaker and strongly oppose their daughter's interaction with him, publicly humiliating Lei Lei. In anger, Lei Lei kidnaps Qing'er, causing a great stir within both families and her university. During this process, Lei Lei and Qing'er develop true love for each other, but before they can confess their feelings, they are forced apart due to immense family and societal pressures, vowing never to see each other again.

After separating, they remain spiritually connected, yearning for each other, with Teresa Teng's "Sweet Sweet" becoming a寄托of their longing...

At this time, Qing'er's old friend Han Yang enters her life. Han Yang is a top student at the medical school, talented and virtuous, representing the most socially recognized outstanding talent of that era. Han Yang has always harbored affection for Qing'er and has helped her significantly during critical moments. Qing'er feels a sense of gratitude towards him. Her parents admire Han Yang immensely, believing he is the best person for their daughter to entrust her life to, and thus strongly encourage their interactions. However, Qing'er cannot forget Lei Lei. At this point, Lei Lei also keeps Qing'er on his mind, overcoming numerous obstacles to appear before her again, revealing their innermost feelings completely. But their happiness is short-lived. Upon learning of their love, Qing'er's parents use various means to forcibly intervene, forcing them to separate once again.

In the following years, Qing'er and Lei Lei spend more time apart than together, struggling between love and responsibility, reason and emotion, enduring heavy emotional tests repeatedly and being forced to pass each other by...
