The story revolves around a young freelance worker who pays little attention to social issues but becomes embroiled in an unusual case after being randomly selected as a juror. This is also a crime thriller that foresees the pitfalls of the soon-to-be-implemented jury system. The "witch" accused of murder for a large inheritance is influenced by a powerful mysterious group, which leads the case from having solid evidence at the beginning to jurors reversing their testimonies one by one... Furthermore, a series of inexplicable events occur around the young man, and another housewife selected as a juror also faces threats. In order to save her, the young man finds himself in a lonely battle. On the other hand, the relationship between the two makes his journalist girlfriend suspicious... What is the true identity of the mysterious group? And what causes the entire incident to fall into a strange trap? A suspenseful mystery full of puzzles and chills is about to unfold. The constantly changing testimonies and the "wall obstructing the truth" challenged alone by the young man change every moment. In which direction will the trial develop?
The young protagonist chosen as a juror and entangled in the whole event is portrayed by Noda Tomoya, who played Nakatsu Shuichi in the 2007 drama "Hana Kimi," co-starred with Ohno Satoshi in last summer's "Maou" (TBS), and is currently active in the Monday 9 PM drama "VOICE~Deceased's Voice." Whether on the stage or screen, he has received high praise. This is Noda's first lead role on Fuji TV and his first solo lead.
The housewife threatened because she was also selected as a juror and involved in the case is portrayed by Katou Ai. Previously, Katou gave outstanding performances in dramas like "派遣员的品格" and "废物老师" (NTV). Her last appearance on Fuji TV was in the 2005 drama "海猿." The journalist girlfriend of Noda's character is portrayed by Higa Emi, who starred in the 2007 continuous TV novel "大晴天" and whose performance in last summer's "Code Blue" (Fuji TV) was widely praised.
The defendant called the "witch" is portrayed by Ishida Yuriko. Known for her roles in dramas like "裸足のGEN" (Fuji TV) and the currently popular movie "无人守护," Ishida takes on this mysterious role.
Additionally, the script is written by Maekawa Yoichi, known for works such as "Proof of Human" and "Maou," renowned for his detailed character portrayals and excellent writing skills.
Noda Tomoya's statement:
I was surprised when I heard I would be playing the lead role, and at the same time, a sense of responsibility arose within me. I heard it's a work based on the theme of the jury system, which is actually going to be implemented in May. There should be a significant societal response.
Because it's a highly anticipated field, producing this drama also made me feel a sense of duty and responsibility, making me reflect deeply. The more I investigate the jury system, the more I understand its advantages and disadvantages.
In short, I hope that through watching this drama, everyone can gain a basic understanding of the jury system while also paying more attention to it.
The other day, I went to court for the first time ever to observe proceedings, and I felt how serious the atmosphere of the court is. Starting in May, it won't be something unrelated to us anymore, so my feelings are quite complex.
For Tuesday night dramas, as a viewer, I always thought that the works during this timeslot were always trying new things, and that passion also inspired me. I've always hoped to appear in a drama during this timeslot, and now that it's happening this way, I am very happy. I hope this brand-new work based on the theme of the jury system will make viewers interested in this new system while watching.
Seki Takuya, producer at Fuji TV's Drama Production Center, also said:
When the jury system becomes part of our lives, how should our lifestyle and ways of thinking adapt accordingly? We hope this detective drama will make viewers think deeply.
Please tune in to "Witch Trial" on Saturday nights.
