Jiang Qiao suddenly returns home and insists on paying the ransom to the kidnappers, despite Baoqi's futile attempts to stop her. Unwilling to let Biwu die in vain, Baoqi uses all her jewelry and possessions to bribe Hai Tang, Peng Keng's lover, and ultimately succeeds in rescuing Chai Jiu. Baoqi implores Chai Jiu to reveal the suspect's name, but he makes numerous unreasonable demands. Frustrated, Baoqi pleads with him in tears, yet Chai Jiu leaves without regard. Suddenly, Chai Jiu returns to the rice warehouse, leaving the workers astonished at his unconditional release.
