<;a>;Tangren Cinema, "Nanjing! Nanjing!" Introduction: In December of 1937, the city of Nanjing fell. Although a large number of National Revolutionary Army soldiers fled the city in disarray, at the same time, there were still many soldiers who refused to surrender and stayed behind. These soldiers carried out a hopeless and bloody resistance on the streets and alleys of this city. Among them was Lu Jianxiong (Liu Ye), a member of the Nationalist elite forces. After the final failure of the resistance, after the blood of tens of thousands of Chinese finally dyed the Yangtze River red, the entire city of Nanjing became a land of death. The only place that still had signs of life was the "Safety Zone" located in Jinling Women's College. Here, a large number of refugees temporarily found respite due to the "Nazi" identity of John Rabe. However, the actual work with the refugees in the safety zone was carried out by Rabe's secretary Mr. Tang (Fan Wei) and the returned female teacher Jiang Shuyun (Gao Yuanyuan). But in the eyes of the Japanese army, so-called "safe zones" were merely "warehouses" filled with female resources. And Rabe's German identity was just a fig leaf that could be easily torn away by the powerful Japanese army. The bodies of Chinese women continuously saved the men hiding in the refugee camps. Kawakami (Hideo Nakano) was an ordinary soldier in the Japanese Sixteenth Division. Known as "the educated one" by his teammates, he was sensitive and naive. His fellow countryman Captain Ita (Ryu Kinuhata), on the other hand, was already a veteran soldier. In the life of occupying Nanjing, he experienced the human cost of maintaining such a "life." Finally, Kawakami made his choice: he sent two Chinese survivors out of Nanjing and then committed suicide.
