Al Ziri, a 24-year-old Yi ethnic from Jinyang County of Sichuan Province, was the platoon leader of the heavy machine gun platoon in the Second Battalion of a certain unit (13th Army, 39th Division, 116th Regiment) of Yunnan Border Defense Force. In January 1975, he joined the army and became a CPC member in March 1974. In the Dainai Blocking Battle, Al Ziri led two heavy machine gun squads to cooperate with the Sixth Company in combat operations. When enemies surrounded them on three sides, he took turns using five submachine guns and threw dozens of hand grenades in succession, leading the soldiers to repel the enemy's 18 counterattacks and kill more than 50 enemies. After the war, Comrade Al Ziri was awarded as First-Class Merit and conferred the honorary title of "Combat Hero" by the Central Military Commission.
