Have you heard of coffee made from cat feces? Would you dare to drink it? This coffee is not only drinkable but also quite expensive, priced at 50 pounds per cup.
According to British media reports, cat feces coffee is made by blending Jamaica's Blue Mountain Coffee with coffee beans excreted by the Indonesian civet. The Indonesian civet is a close relative of the domestic cat, living in the northern jungles of Sumatra and is a tree-dwelling wild animal. During its nocturnal foraging, it uses its keen sense of smell to select only the most mature, sweet, and juicy coffee fruits to consume. The fruit pulp is digested, while the incredibly hard coffee beans are excreted. Experts say that coffee beans usually go through a fermentation process involving their outer shells; however, inside the civet's intestines, special bacteria provide a unique fermentation environment, giving the coffee a distinctive flavor. Due to the civet's habit of hiding its excrement, collecting these coffee beans becomes even more challenging. The market price for civet-excreted coffee beans is 324 pounds per kilogram.
