A scientist in the Netherlands recently announced that a new species of peccary, which resembles a pig, was discovered in the southeastern area of the Amazon River in Brazil. It is the largest peccary in the world, and is about the same size as a big dog. This new species has been named Pecari maximus and was found in a basin. After a genetic analysis by the Center for Environmental Sciences of Leiden in the Netherlands, it was confirmed to be a distinctive new species.
