Game Critics Awards is an independent organization consisting of 36 North American game media journalists. Every year, they select the top ten games of the year, rewarding innovative game works from multiple aspects, and announce them comprehensively at the E3 exhibition. This year's evaluation scope includes games released in North America between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2007, across all platforms. Each judge selects ten games and scores them within the range of 5-30 points, with a maximum of 100 points. The accumulated scores of each game are then tallied and ranked accordingly. Today, the top ten games of the year (Game of the Year) were announced, with the highly acclaimed sci-fi horror shooter "BioShock" taking first place with a total score of 464. Other popular annual games also made the list:
1. "BioShock" - 464 points
2. "The Orange Box" - 387 points
3. "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" - 361 points
4. "Rock Band" - 349 points
5. "Super Mario Galaxy" - 323 points
6. "Halo 3" - 232 points
7. "Mass Effect" - 213 points
8. "Unreal Tournament 3" - 103 points
9. "Assassin's Creed" - 88 points
10. "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" - 87 points
Since most of these games are cross-platform, the panel also provided rankings for each platform:
Xbox 360 - 7
PS3 - 5
PC - 3
Wii - 1
PS2 - 1
As for publishers, competition was fierce. Microsoft Game Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment, and EA each had two titles make the list, while 2K Games, Activision, Nintendo, and Ubisoft each had one title make the list.
