Oecophylla smaragdina could be called a historical famous ant. More than 1700 years ago, Chinese people used this ant for biological control, which is the earliest record of human biological control. Ji Han's "Southern Plants and Trees" in 304 AD recorded that someone was selling Oecophylla smaragdina on the street for pest control in citrus orchards.
