The Art of Reading People by Observing Their Head and Face

The ancients once said: "The head is the noble abode of all yang energies, the face the origin of the five elements. It houses the spiritual essence of a hundred meridians and connects to the divine pathways of the five organs. Through the three divisions (upper, middle, and lower portions) of the face, one's success or failure can be determined." Indeed, the success or failure of a person's career often depends on the intelligence and decisiveness of their mind.

A person with well-proportioned features must be upright; someone who looks "rabbit-headed and deer-brained" or has a "fleshy face" must be cruel and treacherous; a person whose head and face resemble a full moon will likely be charming and adaptable in every direction. These observations can be confirmed through experience.

(1) Square Type: Also known as the entrepreneur type or athlete type. The characteristics of this head and face shape include a square forehead and jawline, with the body also tending towards a square shape. This type often produces great generals, entrepreneurs, athletes, pilots, and explorers. There are more men than women of this type. They are energetic, lively, enjoy movement, love adventure, seek freedom, and prefer outdoor activities. They don't like theoretical discussions but focus on practical matters and have a constructive nature. Their bodies are resilient, capable of enduring hardship. However, their drawbacks include a lack of interest in reading, intellectual laziness, and poor thinking skills. Therefore, they are better suited for executing the plans devised by thinkers.

(2) Rectangular Type: Narrow, long face with a somewhat rectangular shape. People with this head and face type excel in diplomatic skills and enjoy socializing. They are friendly, gentle, polite, alert, and strive to achieve their goals using their intelligence and diplomatic skills rather than force. They make excellent diplomats or salespeople. However, their weaknesses include a lack of strength, courage, and execution ability, along with poor financial management skills.

(3) Round Face Type: Those with round heads and faces tend to have round bodies. They are adaptable, agreeable, and fit the Chinese physiognomy concept of "a broad heart leads to a stout figure," because these people are always optimistic and content. Thus, they are perpetually cheerful, interesting, and approachable. By nature, they love pleasure, food, and sleep, which often results in weight gain and laziness. They excel in administrative management and possess a natural talent for finance.

(4) Triangular Type: Also called the intellectual type, idealist type, or artistic type. The characteristic of this head and face shape includes a high and wide forehead, pointed chin, and a face resembling an inverted triangle. These individuals are intellectually agile, good at reasoning, introspective, book-loving, creative, naturally intelligent, strategic, idealistic, and prone to impulsiveness. They excel in mental work but are not accustomed to physical labor and engage in too little outdoor exercise, leading to weaker constitutions and a lack of vitality. Inventors, designers, educators, critics, and thinkers often belong to this type.

(5) Protruding Type: The forehead slopes backward, the nose is high, the lips protrude, and the chin is short, creating a protruding shape when viewed from the side. People with this head and face type possess excellent intelligence, quick thoughts, agile actions, keen observation, creativity, and a proactive nature. Their personalities can be summarized with the word "fast." Hence, their weakness lies in being overly hasty, lacking deep consideration, and acting recklessly. Consequently, it is said, "A face that tilts upward invites unrighteousness," as such individuals often act rashly. They speak candidly and directly, making them prone to slip-ups. Although they react quickly, they lack endurance and patience, and are impulsive and easily angered.

(6) Concave Type: The upper part of the forehead protrudes, the eyebrows are flat, the nose is low, the lips are short, and the chin protrudes, forming a concave shape when viewed from the side. People with this head and face type are the opposite of those with the protruding type. Their personalities can be described with the word "slow." Both thought and action are deliberate, unhurried, stubborn, and impractical, lacking creativity. However, due to these traits, they develop a cautious nature, avoiding blind conformity and impulsiveness. They remain calm and composed, valuing reason over emotion, and carefully consider everything before acting. As stated in physiognomy, "A face that dips inward harbors deep strategies," thus reducing the chances of trouble. They are patient, enduring, gentle, adaptable, and exhibit excellent character traits.

(7) Straight Type: This type is more common. Its features include a flat forehead, straight nose, and both mouth and chin aligned straight, forming a straight line when viewed from the side. Its personality lies between the purely protruding and concave types, oscillating between deep thought and restlessness, often resulting in indecision.

(8) Upper Protruding, Lower Concave Type: The characteristics of this head and face type include a sloping forehead, prominent eyebrows above a high nose, short lips, and a long, protruding chin. Due to the sloping forehead, these individuals think quickly, while their long and protruding chins make them cautious in action. Their personalities value practicality and authority, making them natural leaders. Their personality flaws include tendencies towards authoritarianism and stubbornness. If you are an unmarried gentleman interested in pursuing a lady with this head and face type, it would be wise to be patient and invest more time in courting her. She may already favor you but hasn't yet reached the moment to act.

(9) Upper Concave, Lower Protruding Type: This type is the opposite of the upper protruding, lower concave type. Its features include a protruding upper forehead, flat eyebrows, a low nose, prominent lips, and a short chin. The personality of this type contrasts with the upper protruding, lower concave type. They act faster than they think, making it difficult for them to have thorough plans beforehand, often leading to rashness and oversight. They frequently regret their actions after the fact, differing from the never-regretful nature of purely convex-faced individuals. They do not value practicality, are easily impulsive, and lack insight and patience.
