Recently, a series of tense events have happened in Kokang County, the Chinese special region located at the boundary between China and Myanmar. On August 8, the Burmese government army was confronted by the Democratic Allied Army of Kokang (local armed force), which triggered widespread panic among the residents and caused more than ten thousand people to flee towards the Chinese border. Although the situation calmed down afterwards thanks to the coordination of all parties involved, on August 27, the Burmese government army began a comprehensive search operation in Kokang to confiscate guns and drugs. Rumors also spread that Peng Jiasheng, the leader of the Kokang Special Region, had fled.
