Yang Gil-rye, along with her daughter Yinsil and son Yincheol, returns to the town of Hwasan where she once lived, after being driven out of her home by her husband's legal wife following his sudden death. At a photography studio in her hometown, Gil-rye is warmly welcomed by the owner, Yong-tae. Seeing that the mother and her two children have no one to rely on, he lets them stay temporarily in his house. Gil-rye's former lover, Jang Nok-do, has since become wealthy and is now the richest man in Hwasan, owning a timber processing plant and the only cinema in the area.
