Chen Shui-bian's 12th Day in Prison Diary

Chen Shui-bian was placed under arrest and went on a hunger strike, which entered its twelfth day yesterday. Due to an episode of low blood sugar the day before, Chen Shui-bian was sent to the medical ward of the Taipei Detention Center for observation. Yesterday, Chen Shui-bian no longer insisted on drinking only plain water. After persuasion by medical staff, he drank three cups of diluted commercially available sports drinks. This was the first time Chen Shui-bian had consumed anything other than water and gastric milk. The detention center believed that if Chen Shui-bian would continue to cooperate, the time for his second escorted medical visit could hopefully be postponed.
