Olivia Ong (Wang Liting), in 2001, at the age of 15, was discovered by Suzuki Ken, the president of Japan's S2S Records, in a singing competition and signed to his label. She finished her secondary education in Singapore and spent a year studying in a Japanese high school before becoming a full-time artist. In November 2004, Wang Liting captivated many spectators when she sang Singapore's national anthem "Majulah Singapura" a cappella during a football match between Singapore and Japan (a 2006 World Cup Asian Qualifier). In 2005, Wang Liting's debut album *A Girl Meets Bossa Nova*, which featured the bossa nova style, was released to critical acclaim. Building on this success, she released her first original album *Precious Stones* that same year. Following this, Olivia Ong gained significant attention in both Japan and Singapore. She then launched *Tamarillo*, an album leaning more towards pop music, as well as *A Girl Meets Bossa Nova 2*. Her mid-2007 release *Fall In Love With*, which consisted of reinterpreted classic songs, further boosted her popularity in Singapore. From this point onward, all of Wang Liting's albums were released under her English name, Olivia Ong.
