After a three-year absence, The Fray's second self-titled album was released on February 3, 2009 by Epic. The first single from the album, "You Found Me", sold 278,000 digital copies in its first three weeks of release in the United States. The idea for the song came after crises with friends and family that made lead singer Isaac Slade ask the old question, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" Another song, "Enough for Now," is about the death of Slade's maternal grandfather. The sound of The Fray is very similar to the band's debut, "but it's more extreme," says Slade. "Where it should be quieter, it's quieter. And where it should be rocking, we rock a little harder. So there's more dynamic range."
