The Greek island of Cephallonia, adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea, is picturesque, as pure and peaceful as a pastoral little poem, and is an island permeated with a strong ancient style. The residents, who make their living by fishing, have lived here for generations. They are unambitious and simple. However, although the sky over the island is clear and bright, it cannot escape the shadow of World War II. In 1941, not long after the start of WWII, the Italian army occupied the island, and the life trajectories of every individual on the island were thus changed. Tonio Corelli is a captain officer in this unit. Although he is a soldier, he still retains his romantic nature and extraordinary taste, and loves playing the mandolin. It seems that only in this way can he forget the loneliness of being away from home and the immense pressure brought by the war.
