Synopsis:

In the 18th century, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw), was born in the filthiest and most odorous place in Paris — the fish market. Grenouille was born with an astonishing talent for scents: whether foul or fragrant, he could remember them all and easily distinguish various smells.

When he turned 13 while living in an orphanage, the headmistress sold him to a tanner. Grenouille lived a life worse than animals at the tannery. By chance, Grenouille showcased his extraordinary talent before Baldini, the perfumer, and began working at the perfume shop. However, Grenouille was not merely content with creating the world’s most fragrant perfume; he dreamed of learning how to preserve the scent of everything. Baldini told Grenouille that the origin of perfumes was in Grasse, where people knew how to preserve scents. Grenouille arrived in Grasse with Baldini’s letter of recommendation.

Grenouille fell in love with the body scent of young maidens. In order to preserve this fragrance, Grenouille eventually embarked on the path of a killer.
