Synopsis:
Anthony Zimmer is a genius money-laundering mastermind who has evaded capture for years. Nobody knows his true identity, let alone manage to catch him. Aside from being wanted by the police, he is also on the hit list of the Russian mafia. Among all those trying to apprehend Anthony, only Akerman, a customs officer specializing in financial cases (played by Sami Frey), knows Anthony's one weakness: his beautiful and mysterious girlfriend Giara (played by Sophie Marceau).
François (played by Yvan Attal) is an ordinary man who has just been dumped by his girlfriend. He plans to go to the French Riviera in the south of France for some rest and relaxation. On the train heading south, François meets Giara, a mysterious and beautiful woman, and is immediately captivated by her charm. This bold and passionate beauty suggests they spend the weekend together, and François eagerly agrees, feeling like he's living a fairy-tale dream.
Unfortunately, dreams always end too quickly. Giara suddenly disappears without reason, plunging François from heaven into hell. Determined to get Giara back at any cost, François soon realizes that things are far more complicated than he imagined...
Behind the Scenes:
This is the first feature-length drama directed and written by Jérôme Salle. The film blends Hitchcock-style suspense with the techniques of the French New Wave. Featuring performances by stars Sophie Marceau and Yvan Attal, veteran of the French New Wave, Sami Frey, also plays a role in the film. The director innovates in filming techniques, weaving elements of suspense and action into the love story, allowing the plot to develop along the lines of a thriller, revealing the truth only at the last moment. However, *Anthony Zimmer* lacks sufficient detail buildup before the big reveal, making the film feel contrived for the sake of surprise, with abrupt plot twists. Within the framework of a traditional thriller, the director skillfully manages various elements, and perhaps because of this familiarity, he attempts to add some originality, though not entirely successfully.
