Synopsis:

This film is adapted from the 1964 novel of the same name by American novelist Christopher Isherwood. The story takes place in Los Angeles, California, on November 30, 1962. Middle-aged English professor George Falconer (Colin Firth), unable to break free from the shadow of the car accident that killed his same-sex partner Jim (Matthew Goode), with whom he had lived for sixteen years, meticulously prepares for his own suicide. The movie documents George's activities throughout a single day, from morning till evening, including his teaching at school, dealing with his relationship with student Kenny (Nicholas Hoult), and attending a private dinner hosted by his former lover from London, Charlotte (Julianne Moore).

The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor (Colin Firth), BAFTA nominations for Best Costume Design and won the Best Actor award, Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress (Julianne Moore), as well as a nomination for Best Original Score. It was also nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and won the Best Actor award there.
