Synopsis:

This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by American novelist Thomas Cobb. Bad Blake (Jeff Bridges), a down-and-out blues and country singer with a drinking problem, meets Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a reporter for the Santa Fe New Mexican, while performing in Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico. On the verge of bankruptcy, Bad travels to Phoenix to perform as the opening act for his former student, rising country music star Tommy Sweet (Colin Farrell). After the concert, on the way back from Phoenix to Santa Fe, Bad gets into a car accident and recovers at Jean's house. As they spend time together, their feelings deepen. Bad starts writing songs again and confides in his longtime friend Wayne (Robert Duvall). It seems like things are turning around for him. However, during a visit from Jean and her four-year-old son in Houston, an unexpected event makes Bad realize where his life should go...

The film won two Oscars at the 82nd Academy Awards for Best Actor (Jeff Bridges) and Best Original Song (Ryan Bingham & T-Bone Burnett), and received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress (Maggie Gyllenhaal). It also garnered nominations for Best Actor and Best Original Music Score at the British Academy Awards and won Best Actor in a Drama and Best Original Song at the Golden Globes.
