Synopsis: In 2019, a mysterious plague erupted globally, nearly wiping out humanity. The survivors mostly turned into blood-sucking vampires, while the few remaining humans struggled to evade both vampires and the disease. Vampires, on the other hand, openly became the rulers of civilization—government officials, military personnel, intellectuals—all had become fanged vampires. As the normal human population dwindled, vampires began to face a serious issue: relying solely on human blood as their source of sustenance, they had to protect humans like endangered species; otherwise, vampires would perish along with humans.

Edward Dalton (played by Ethan Hawke) is a senior researcher working for a large corporation owned by the richest vampire on Earth, Charles Bromley (Sam Neill). Bromley hopes to find an alternative to blood supplies, resolving the current predicament faced by the vampire community while also reaping substantial profits. Edward has his own beliefs, and when he encounters Audrey Bennett (Claudia Karvan), her presence leads to a breakthrough in his research. On the human side, a mysterious veteran named Eaves (Willem Dafoe) has a special mission that requires Edward's involvement. Trapped between humans, vampires, and the plague, Edward discovers himself entangled in multiple conspiracies, each step fraught with peril.
