Synopsis:

This film is based on a true story. John Crowley is an MBA graduate from Harvard Business School with a flourishing career, a beautiful wife, and three children—everything seems so perfect, and the life of this middle-class American family is enviable.

However, things don't always go as planned. Just as John Crowley was ready to make his mark in the world, his two younger children were diagnosed with Pompe disease, an extremely rare condition that was considered incurable at the time. Unwilling to watch his children die needlessly, John Crowley decided to take a last stand. He resolved to invest in building a pharmaceutical factory and fund the development of a drug to treat Pompe disease himself. However, his research was dismissed as a joke within the industry because John Crowley did not graduate from medical school and had no medical background. Moreover, many universities had already failed in their research on Pompe disease, let alone one individual.

John Crowley, who came from a working-class family, refused to accept this fate. Determined to achieve something extraordinary, he set out to save his children. With the support and help of his wife, his "research center" gradually took shape. He recruited talents from various research institutes and universities. Among his team of researchers was a young scientist with extraordinary talent but often overlooked by others: Dr. Robert Stonehill.

In collaborating with Dr. Stonehill, John Crowley accelerated his own learning process because he was racing against death. Children with Pompe disease could pass away at any moment. On the other hand, they were also fighting against the U.S. healthcare system, as clinical trials were needed for research, but large hospitals were unwilling to provide conditions for them to test their drugs. Finally, even after developing a new drug with some efficacy, there were still commercial challenges to overcome because numerous large pharmaceutical companies had been eyeing this new drug greedily, setting up numerous obstacles in terms of procedures, legal issues, and formalities.

After relentless efforts, John Crowley and Dr. Stonehill seemed to have found a way to cure Pompe disease in the lab. The question remains: Would John Crowley be willing to use his own children as guinea pigs to test this new drug? Difficulties still lie ahead...
