Synopsis:
The story revolves around a group of elderly individuals in Florida who were living out their remaining days without purpose in a nursing home. Unexpectedly, after three of the men sneak into a nearby villa's swimming pool to swim, they discover that they feel rejuvenated and full of energy. Soon, the villa is purchased by some outsiders who daily retrieve giant stone eggs from the deep sea and immerse them in the swimming pool. Out of curiosity, the elders uncover the truth: these outsiders are actually aliens disguised as humans, the stone eggs are their infants, and the pool water truly becomes a fountain of youth.
One-liner Review: "It is everything you've dreamed of. It is nothing you expect."
Behind-the-scenes Production:
Directed by young director Ron Howard, this science fiction film was his third directorial effort. Adapted from David Saperstein's novel, it features an uncommon theme—describing the extraordinary adventure of elderly individuals. Ron Howard ingeniously allows the seniors to regain their youth while incorporating special effects for the aliens, which drew large audiences of both older and younger viewers upon its release. The success of the film also brought Ron Howard fame. In 1985, this film won two Academy Awards at the 58th Oscars for Best Supporting Actor (Don Ameche) and Best Visual Effects (Ken Ralston et al.), and at the 42nd Venice Film Festival, it received the "Venice Youth Award," a newly established prize.
