According to South Korean media reports, the period drama Coffee, starring Ju Jin-mo, Kim So-yun, Park Hee-soon and Ryu Seon, has recently released its main poster. Centered on the historical figure King Gojong (played by Park Hee-soon), Coffee tells a story of love and espionage between Korea's first coffee master Dania (played by Kim So-yun) and her silent admirer, double spy Illich (played by Ju Jin-mo).
Previously, the mysterious atmosphere-laden teaser poster and character posters of Coffee were unveiled, which drew much attention. In this main poster, only three characters are featured: Illich (played by Ju Jin-mo), who is both a top Russian shooter and a double spy; Dania (played by Kim So-yun), who entered the palace to make coffee for King Gojong and holds the core secrets of an assassination plan against him; and Gojong, the last king of Korea who had a strong preference for the smell of coffee.
The directions of the three characters' gazes are different, each lost in their own thoughts, yet showing no trace of emotion on their faces. The subtle relationships and conflicts between them are all revealed in the poster. Set against the backdrop from 1896, when after Queen Min was killed, Gojong fled to the Russian legation for refuge (an event historically referred to as "the flight to the Russian legation"), to 1897, when Gojong declared the establishment of the Korean Empire, Coffee tells the story of assassination actions and secrets surrounding coffee and Gojong. The film is expected to be released on March 15th.
