Plot summary: "Beauty and the Kingdom" does not set the story in a specific dynasty, but rather uses an imaginary historical background to narrate a romantic fairy tale. In an era of feudal lords dividing the country and ceaseless warfare, General played by Donnie Yen is responsible for training the princess (played by Kelly Chen) in martial arts. Later, the princess is victimized by a treacherous minister (played by Guo Xiaodong) and escapes from the palace. She is luckily rescued by a highly skilled hermit (played by Leon Lai), and they fall in love. With the help of the hermit, the princess gets rid of the traitorous minister who killed her father king, and regains the throne. At this moment, however, the princess chooses to retreat to the mountains with the hermit, abandoning the great kingdom for love.
