Plot Introduction:

The story takes place in a small mountain village, where a couple discovers a conspiracy after a bloody case and engages in a battle of wits and courage against the assassin played by Donnie Yen.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Liu Jinxǐ (played by Donnie Yen) is a papermaking worker who lives peacefully with his two sons in a remote town. This tranquil life is about to be disrupted by an intrusive detective.

Xu Baijiǔ (played by Tony Leung Chiu-wai) comes to the town to investigate the deaths of two bandits. These two men, who seemingly died accidentally during Liu Jinxǐ's self-defense, turn out to be two of the most skilled fugitives wanted by the authorities. How could an unarmed villager kill them? Xu Baijiǔ, well-versed in martial arts, believes this was no accident, and that Liu Jinxǐ must possess extraordinary skills to kill so effectively without showing any effort. As the investigation deepens, Xu Baijiǔ discovers a connection between Liu Jinxǐ and the 72 Disha - the most brutal and evil organization in the江湖(jianghu), known for their ruthless killings. The leader of the 72 Disha is a master of martial arts whose skills are unmatched.

As Xu Baijiǔ delves deeper into Liu Jinxǐ's past, he begins to doubt whether Liu Jinxǐ is truly a heinous criminal.
