Stephen Chow - The长江7号Plot Summary

In the film, Stephen Chow plays a destitute father living with his son in an old house on the side of a major road in Ningbo. In order to provide a better life for his son, Stephen Chow is forced to work at a construction site but tragically encounters the mistreatment of delayed wage payments for migrant workers. Not only does he not receive his pay, but he also gets chased and beaten by the foreman for "causing trouble." Despite the hardships, though unable to afford expensive toys for his son, Stephen Chow cannot bear to let him down entirely. By chance, he finds a strange object in a garbage pile. Delighted, Stephen Chow plans to give this item as a toy to his son, only to discover that it's actually a communication device used by extraterrestrials. Using this communicator, Stephen Chow's family contacts a beautiful alien who is moved by their unwavering father-son bond. The alien not only helps them severely punish the wealthy students bullying his son at school but also punishes the contractor, Lam Tsz Chung, who withheld wages and assaulted Stephen Chow...

Stephen Chow - Behind-the-scenes production of "The长江7号"

On-set Character Costumes:

Stephen Chow’s costume: A pair of worn-out Liberation Army shoes, a deep blue overalls that looks like it hasn’t been washed in a long time, plus a crumpled gray suit, with slightly graying hair and beard.

Stephen Chow’s son’s costume: Little “Stephen Chow” wears oversized cracked leather shoes. Energetic and lively on set with boyish characteristics, although in reality, the role of the "son" was played by a girl cross-dressing as a boy. This "Little Stephen Chow" not only resembles him in appearance but also shares his mischievous temperament.

Stephen Chow’s "Secret Weapon"

On set, Stephen Chow continues his usual dual role as director and actor. Whether it's rehearsing before shooting or reviewing footage after filming, Stephen Chow is fully involved in every step. Even amidst the hectic schedule, Stephen Chow always finds time to fiddle with something resembling a phone in his hand. It turns out this is Stephen Chow's secret weapon: a wireless handheld monitor. No wonder Stephen Chow often focuses intently on it—he's keeping track of the dynamics on set at all times.

Props Resemble Spaceships

The imaginative Stephen Chow brings mysterious props into "The长江7号". This flying saucer looks just like what we imagine a typical UFO to be, though its size isn't too large. Equivalent to a convex disc about 5 meters in diameter, it emits a silvery aluminum glow—indeed, apart from the shape, it seems very similar to the "Shenzhou" spacecraft in terms of size and its charming color. Stephen Chow chose to shoot the stunning take-off scene in a timber warehouse, with two cranes controlling daylight-like lighting, while another relatively smaller one is responsible for hoisting the flying saucer. After a deafening roar of motors, the flying saucer lifts off the ground and begins to "fly".
