The main character, Wen Yao (played by Guo Tao), was born into a photography family and under the influence of his grandfather and father, he has always wanted to become a photographer. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned, and Wen Yao eventually became an unremarkable book salesman. He spends his days promoting a book called "Newlywed Guide" and lives a financially strained life with his wife, Xiao Yu (played by Liu Xinyou), in this bustling big city.
After an accidental encounter with a bus pickpocket (played by Huang Bo), Wen Yao is inspired to turn "Newlywed Guide" into an "educational film," and quickly finds a strong supporter: Zhao Xi (played by Ying Zhuang), the president of a audio-visual company.
Wen Yao, filled with dreams, convinces A Mao (played by Li Cansen), a Hong Kong resident living in the same neighborhood, to be the male lead and begins the grand work of "casting for actresses." After several twists and turns, Wen Yao is secretly filmed by the actress Mei Feng (played by Xie Na) who came for the audition, and is thus labeled as a "pervert director."
